Sheltair & Avfuel: Future Takes Flight Scholarship Program

Six (6) $5,000 Scholarships Available 

Deadline: August 31, 2024

PURPOSE
Sheltair and Avfuel desire to re-invest in the aviation community by providing meaningful financial support to aviators pursuing a greater commitment to business aviation. In supporting career advancement opportunities, Sheltair and Avfuel are giving back to the marketplace that has allowed them to thrive as collaborative partners for close to 10 years.
 
The Sheltair and Avfuel: Future Takes Flight Scholarships will provide $30,000 in educational funds annually. Each year, the program will award six $5,000 scholarships across three categories: two for learning to fly or advanced pilot ratings; two for aviation technicians; and two for continuing education. By splitting the scholarship funds across three key categories, Sheltair and Avfuel seek to support advancement throughout a broad scope of educational opportunities within business aviation.
 
Learning to Fly or Advanced Pilot Ratings Scholarship | $5,000 Each 
Scholarships available: 2

Funds in the learning to fly or advanced pilot ratings category can be used for coursework or flight lessons for students pursuing their private pilot certificate, adding a type rating (multi-engine, commercial or others), adding to their certificate with an ATP, completing a bachelor’s degree, working toward a CAM certification, or completing upset recovery training.

Scholarships available: 2

Funds in the aviation technicians category can be used to start or continue aviation technician coursework, or achieve a mechanic’s inspector authorization certification.

 Funds in the continuing education category can be used to further skills needed when working at an FBO, charter company, maintenance facility or flight school.

 Sheltair and Avfuel reserve the right to not award any scholarship in a given year if no sufficient application is received. 


APPLICATION DEADLINE 
Complete applications are due by 11:59 p.m. EDT on August 31, 2024.
 
SELECTION CRITERIA
A team of Avfuel and Sheltair executives will select the year’s six recipients based on essay submissions and with special consideration given to those facing financial hardship.

PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS
The Future Takes Flight Scholarships will be distributed by check. The check will be made payable to the recipient and the educational institution of the recipient’s choice. The check must be endorsed by both and must be used for the purposes of furthering the recipient’s aviation education. The 2023 Scholarship must be redeemed within one year of receiving the award notice.
 
Recipients must provide Avfuel and Sheltair with a detailed description of how the funds will be used.

AVTRIP Scholarship: $2,000

Avfuel Pilot-in-Training Scholarship: $1,500, $1,000, $500


PURPOSE
Avfuel Corporation of Ann Arbor, Michigan, has established funds available for the purpose of furthering aviation education. These funds will be distributed under the names of the “AVTRIP Scholarship” and “Avfuel Pilot-in-Training Scholarship”. 
 
The AVTRIP Scholarship was designed to award one current AVTRIP member with funds to use toward furthering his or her aviation education. The scholarship will be in the amount of $2,000. These funds may be used for, but not limited to, the following areas: flight training, educational tuition fees, and a new license or rating.

A maximum of one AVTRIP Scholarship will be awarded for each calendar year.

The Avfuel Pilot-in-Training Scholarship was designed to award three students with funds to use toward furthering their aviation education. The scholarship will be in the amounts of $1,500, $1,000 and $500. These funds may be used for, but not limited to, the following areas: flight training, educational tuition fees, and a new license.

A maximum of three AVTRIP Pilot-in-Training Scholarships will be awarded for each calendar year.
Avfuel reserves the right to not award any scholarship in a given year if no sufficient application is received.

APPLICATION DEADLINE 
Complete applications will be due by 11:59 p.m. EDT on September 4, 2024.
 
SELECTION CRITERIA
Avfuel Corporation will make the selection of the awarded recipients based solely on the answers of the application packet. Semi-finalists may be invited to a personal interview by staff of Avfuel Corporation and industry representatives who will make the final selection. The scholarship recipients will be notified by Avfuel.

The scholarships will be distributed by check. The check will be made payable to the recipient and the educational institution of the recipient’s choice. The check must be endorsed by both, and must be used for the purposes of furthering the recipient’s aviation education. The 2024 scholarships must be redeemed by October 31, 2025.
 
Recipients must provide Avfuel Corporation with a detailed description of how the funds will be used.
