Sustainable Aviation Fuel

With a focus on innovation, Avfuel is leading the mission to further industry advancements, including bringing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to market. Toward this effort, Avfuel is proud to partner with Neste—a leading provider of renewable and circular solutions—to bring its Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel product to Avfuel’s customer base.

Together, Avfuel and Neste are responding to aviation’s demand for SAF, supporting aviation’s sustainability goals and enhancing supply availability at a commercial scale, filling an immense gap in the industry’s supply chain. But more than a new supply chain, the companies’ partnership affords a meaningful way to help fight climate change.

SAF is the most effective way to reduce a flight’s carbon footprint. It’s one more way to reach a business’ or airport’s sustainability goals, and earn good will amongst stakeholders and communities.

About Avfuel's SAF Supply

  • SAF meeting ASTM D1655 (jet fuel) standards is approved for use by the FAA. Please click here to view the FAA's Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin NE-11-56R4.
  • Avfuel supplies SAF in partnership with Neste, which produces the concentrated Neste MY SAF product and blends it with petroleum-based jet fuel.
  • This fuel is tested and certified for quality, and to ensure it meets ASTM D7566 and ASTM D1655 (jet fuel) standards.

  • The SAF offers an immediate way to directly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from aircraft, requiring no new investments, modifications or changes to procedures; SAF works seamlessly with existing fueling infrastructure and aircraft engines.
  • Avfuel uses its logistical distribution expertise to supply Neste MY SAF to its customer base.
  • Over the course of the partnership, Neste will provide Avfuel with SAF in volumes able to meet the growing demands of Avfuel’s customers, including FBOs, airports, flight departments, OEMs and commercial/cargo operators. This allows Avfuel to arrange supply to customers on a consistent basis.
  • Avfuel’s supply of Neste MY SAF is made from 100% renewable, sustainably-sourced waste and residue materials, such as used cooking oils, grease and rendered animal fats.
  • In its pure form, Neste MY SAF can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to petroleum-based jet fuel.
  • Once blended at a 35% ratio, Avfuel anticipates a 22 metric ton reduction in life cycle carbon emissions per truck load.

Refer to the Avfuel/Neste Partnership FAQs for more information, as well as the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Guide and Sustainable Aviation Fuel FAQ for further educational materials on SAF.

Neste has more than a decade of experience making SAF, and even more in renewable fuels. It is a recognized leader with a strong, proven track record of safety and sustainability.

Book and Claim: SAF Wherever You Fly

Avfuel’s expanding SAF availability to customers throughout the world with its book and claim offering. Now, customers can buy a full truckload of SAF and receive credit for the emissions reductions benefit it provides no matter where they are in relation to where the fuel is delivered.

How it Works
With Avfuel’s book and claim program, a customer can purchase SAF (the claim) no matter where they’re located—paying the premium cost for SAF over jet fuel and, in return, receiving the credit for its use and applying it to their environmental, social and governance (ESG) scores. This SAF is taken off the book at an airport where the physical SAF molecules are held and being uplifted by customers who are simply paying for jet fuel and do not get to claim credit toward using SAF.

Customers who are interested in purchasing SAF through Avfuel’s book and claim program are encouraged to contact Keith Sawyer, manager of alternative fuels, at [email protected] or by reaching out to their designated area manager at 734.663.6466.
