Sheltair Aviation providing NOAA’s hurricane hunters ground support in the hours leading up to Irma’s arrival

LAKELAND Fla. / September 10, 2017 / GENERAL AVIATION NEWS – As part of its ongoing efforts to support government, military and general aviation operations prior to the arrival of Hurricane Irma, Sheltair, one of the nation's leading privately-owned aviation development companies, is assisting “hurricane hunter” aircraft from its Lakeland, Florida facility. Through Saturday, September 9th, it provided refueling services to aircraft belonging to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Sheltair is also readying its post hurricane recovery plan that will assist aircraft inbound seeking to bring assistance to various part of Florida damaged from this catastrophic storm. Sheltair earlier activated its hurricane response plan with the expectation that the storm track may require the suspension of their FBO services at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood (FLL), Pompano Beach (PMP), Orlando (ORL), Daytona Beach (DAB), Jacksonville (JAX), Tampa (TPA) and Savannah (SAV).

"During prior severe weather Sheltair has been proud of its role in providing support to aviation assets brought in to aid in recovery efforts. We recognize that the help required from distance parts of the country may be unprecedented and priority items must come in by air. We have consistently planned for disasters of this scope and we are ready to assist those arriving aircraft when Irma pulls away,” explained Sheltair's Chairman, CEO and founder Jerry Holland.

Sheltair operates 17 premier FBOs and manages over three million square feet of aviation related properties throughout Florida, Georgia and New York. As part of its emergency response plan, all non-essential Sheltair personnel are being sent home to be with their evacuated families.

All updates regarding the status of suspended operations will be distributed from Sheltair’s New York office where emergency communication links have been established with their properties within the projected storm corridor. Updates will be posted on the company’s web site, www.sheltairaviation.com and social media platforms.
