Stuart Jet Center (KSUA) Facility Earns LEED Certification

STUART, Fla. / March 28, 2016 / GENERAL AVIATION NEWS –Stuart Jet Center’s new flight training, maintenance and avionics facility received the distinguished designation of a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Certified building on March 18.

Awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is a prestigious green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. LEED Certified buildings save money and resources, having a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy.

Stuart Jet Center started construction on the $3.5 million facility in December 2013 and completed the project in January 2015. The project was then submitted for LEED certification.

“Stuart Jet Center is expanding,” said Dan Capen, president of Stuart Jet Center. “And as we continue to grow, we recognize the importance of limiting our environmental footprint—that’s why we felt it was important to go through the LEED certification process to ensure we’re doing our part to conserve our community.”

The facility is a three-story, 9,900 square foot office featuring a green reclaimed water irrigation system; native plant landscaping; motion-detected LED parking lot lights; solar panels; low-flow conservation water usage; LED lighting; energy-saving, high-efficiency air-condition systems; and energy-efficient, high-impact windows.
“With each new LEED-certified building, we get one step closer to USGBC’s vision of a sustainable built environment within a generation,” said Rick Fedrizzi, CEO and founding chair, USGBC. “As the newest member of the LEED family of green buildings, KSUA is an important addition to the growing strength of the green building movement.”
